Vancouver, WA - An attack on the clubhouse at the Lakeview Golf Course last night claimed the lives of seven men, wounding six more. Deputy Chief of Police Devin Mason, Municipal Judge Richard Terpenning, Dr. Carl Johansan, Lorenzo Buscetta, Sherman Johnson, Andrew Johnson, and Lyndon Baines were pronounced dead on the scene. The names of the six wounded have not been released, but two are in critical condition and the other four are in serious condition, all at local hospitals. The only unharmed witness is Jack Robin, the bartender, who fled the scene shortly after the attack began.
The assault occurred shortly after nightfall with the intruder bursting through the bay window overlooking Vancouver Lake. Robin described the attacker as a "man-like beast, walking upright but with claws and teeth like you wouldn't believe." Robin is currently being treated at Southwest Washington Medical Center for shock and stress related conditions resulting from the attack.
Police have not released the manner in which the victims were slain, stating only that it was too graphic and disturbing for public consumption. Unnamed sources do confirm that this appears very similar to the death of two scientists near the Lake on Tuesday night.
"The death of Deputy Chief Mason is a great tragedy, but the department will continue to function," said Brian Martinek, the Vancouver Chief of Police. "The perpetrator of these heinous crimes will be brought to justice. That I assure you."
Authorities are recommending that those in the Vancouver Lake area evacuate for their own safety.
Vancouver, WA - Two families near Vancouver Lake were murdered last night. Both lived within a mile of where the bodies of two scientists were found Tuesday night, and these victims were killed in the same way. Authorities are unsure if these killings have any connection to the attack at the Lakeview Golf Course last night, but are not ruling out any possible relation.
Between 11:00 PM and midnight, the alarm service at the home of Ron and Shirley Sebelius, and their children Peggy and Sam, reported a breakin. Due to a shortage of manpower caused by the investigation at Lakeview, it took nearly 20 minutes for police to respond, by which time all four members of the family were dead.
About two hours later, another alarm sounded less than a mile away at the home of Jessica and Kirby Burgess. Police responded within minutes, but were still too late to save the couple.
Police are asking that anyone who may have seen the attacker contact the Vancouver Police Department.
Vancouver, WA - All residents within one mile of Vancouver Lake are strongly encouraged to evacuate their homes, according to the Vancouver Mayor's office. With 15 dead and 2 more missing from this week alone, authorities are concerned that there may be more fatalities if people remain in the area.
The American Red Cross has set up a temporary shelter for those affected by the evacuation. Those in need of this shelter can contact the local Red Cross office for assistance. At this time, the City of Vancouver is providing no direct aid to evacuees.
Forestry officials in cooperation with a local technology company and the Vancouver Police are setting up monitoring devices and other security in the area in the hopes that whomever or whatever is responsible for these attacks can be located and neutralized.
Vancouver, WA - Two hikers have been repoted missing in Vancouver Lake Park. They were exploring some of the 200 acres of undeveloped park area, but did not check in as planned on Thursday. They both carried GPS locators, but park rangers are not able to pick up a signal from the devices.
Rangers are searching the area, but due to the deadly nature of crime near the Lake over the past few days, authorities are advising volunteers to keep away from the park and leave the rescue operations to armed officers.
In one night of obfuscation, obstruction, and outright bungling, the police have singularly failed to produce any leads on what may have killed 17 of our finest citizens this week. Hundreds of citizens are evacuated from their homes, most likely causing the attacker to simply pick up stakes and move to where it can find more victims, making things even more difficult for the already woefully incompetant police to handle.
No mention is made at all of all the attack sites being within 2 miles of I-5. If the attacker is a man, then this provides easy transportation for him to escape any detection. If the attacker is a beast, then removing all possible targets between the lake and the freeway simply encourages it to disrupt a critical piece of transportation infrastructure in addition to the tragic loss of more lives.
The only solution would appear to be to call in outside assistance. Whether to call the FBI, US Forestry Department, or the National Guard is still uncertain, thanks to the bumbling idiocy of the police and their inability to even ascertain the nature of the threat we face.
Maybe we should just call all three and hope something works. Could even that be worse than the current lack of results?
